"Breast Cancer and Iodine" by Dr. David Derry is a great resource for this information. Lugol's dosage (3 mg. of a specific ratio of iodine/iodide) is part of his recommendation. Standard Process (a whole foods supplement company) uses that formula for their product Prolamine Iodine.
www.breastcancerchoices.org We buy Iodoral from them.

www.iodine4health.com lots of info, plus they have a yahoo group as well.

I've had remarkable results in taking therapeutic doses of iodine. It took several months and working up the dosage, but it took care of just about all of my monthly hormonal issues. Also I have more energy, and can tell if I forget to take it. I've been taking it for several years now.

I take about 50 mgs per day.
There is some information on it in Suzanne Somer's book, KNOCKOUT. Also, I do now that you would need to get some testing, before your natropathic or homeopathic recommends it to you.
May want to try eating Seaweeds.. Kombu, dulse, wakame, nori, arame etc. has everything u need! ;)  Iodine plus a naturally complete multi-vitamin.
