Can anyone recommend a good juicer? And WHERE can I buy it in Sydney?

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I have decided to incorporate raw juicing into our daily lives.
We want to buy a good juicer that is going to last and be easy to use.
Price isn't a concern as we feel it's worth the investment.

Are there ones out that they can juice apples whole and that kind of thing?
We want minimal chopping etc.

Any thoughts would be great!!

Jess :)

Hi Jess,

Vitality4Life.com.au stock good juicers in Australia. We use the 'Greenpower Kempo Twin Gear' and have also used the Hurom juicer which is the latest of 'cold pressed' juicers. The Hurom is much easier and faster however you get a little more sediment than usual. The Greenpower is especially good for wheatgrass and also for making nut milks and snacks which the Horum cannot do. I would go the Hurom if all you want is juices and the Greenpower if you want the extra versatility.

We also have a comprehensive 'Juicer Buying Guide' on the 'Food Matters' website:

Hope this helps!!!

Hi James,

Thanks so much for your response, I just realised that another member posted up a very similar question not so long ago. So thank you for taking the trouble to reply nonetheless. We actually decided to go with a conventional Breville (mind you the best on that market…it wasn’t cheap!). The reasons we went with this option is due to the fact that it’s fast, has a large shute that you can throw whole apples down, and is relatively easy to clean …so this all makes it CONVENIENT and if its convenient it will be easier to adopt as a regular habit.
So we weighed up our options and although the Vitality4Life range retains more nutrients and is ultimately the way to go from a health perspective, we’re new to juicing and want to start with what’s easy and eventually upgrade to what’s ‘best’ in a couple of years.

So thank you for your advice. We’ve been juicing twice a day and I feel fantastic!
It’s really quite exciting once you start taking responsibility for your health.
It’s made the world of difference having Keith (my fiance) on board now and being a much more active participant in our lifestyle choices. He gave up smoking a couple of months ago and is making major changes – its fantastic.

Also, we’ve seen Food Matters 4 times now…and each time we have new people come over who are watching it for the first time and every single person is amazed by it and are making changes. It’s impressive what an impact it is having. And each person we show it to will be exposed to this wonderful new way of living. That makes me sleep well at night :)

Hi!

I bought an Omega Juicer - I believe it's the Omega J8005 - here is some info about it: http://www.omegajuicersdirect.com

I bought it because I can juice veggies, fruit and grasses/greens as well, so you don't need a separate juicer for wheatgrass juice (for example). It does have a rather small opening, and you have to cut up some things, but it's great.

Don't know where to buy in your area, but think that the web above will lead you to it.

Happy juicing!
Hi Casey,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I haven't come across the Omega juicer in my research. We ended up buying a convention Breville but we're really happy with it at this stage - as we're new to juicing and want to develop the habit first.

Perhaps you'd know here I can source wheatgrass? It's hard to come by!!
Also is there such thing as 'fresh' goji berries?

Thanks,
Jess

Hi Jessica
No idea where you can buy this particular model called GREEN POWER in Sydney, but I got it off ebay and it's on Amazon... it's a bit of a knockoff of the Greenstar Machine (I think it was called)-- it does everything from wheat juicing to apples, etc. You still need to cut up your apples, but carrots, etc. go through with no problem. I like the fact that it is able to do grasses and carrots in the same go... The pulp is pumped out as excellent compost, or you can use it as a base for things like raw burgers (depending on what the pulp is from natch lol). The rotors are stainless steel with ceramic. Makes excellent juice. We've had ours for about three years now. It's made in Korea.
Hey there,

I thought I would comment because I have recently started juice feasting (www.juicefeasting.com), and for juicing, I have actually been using my blender (a vitamix). What I do is blend up the veggies/fruit in a little bit of water and then I use a strainer bag (nut mylk bag) to drain the juice from the pulp. I find that this is much quicker than a juicer, and because it's a heavy duty blender, it actually penetrates the cell walls of the veggies, making it bioavailable.

Anyhoo, just a thought. I have found that it works really well and much quicker than a juicer (and I juice A LOT).

Thanks,

-Jonathan :)
Hi Jess,

I got my wheatgrass here: http://www.wheatgrasskits.com/. Still, I don't know if they ship to your area...:)

Hi Everyone - thanks so much for your feedback!!
i thought you were supposed to remove the apple seeds before juicing---they contain arsenic!!!

I've just received my first juicer in the mail. However, just got home from Sam's (Cosco) store and bought the Green Machine. Packed full of fruits and veggies. This juice was only $5 for a 64 ounces. I can't produce that for as cheap at home. Anything jump out to any of experienced juicers as to why I shouldn't go this route. They have lots of varieties. Also, there is another producer, bolthouse farms. Thanks for the advice.
Instead of juicing why not go with a high power blender like a vita mix or a blendtec? This way you keep the fiber in your food instead of just putting a bunch of sugar in your body from the juice. The fiber helps to slow the sugar from absorbing. I have a blendtec and absolutely love it. It will grind anything you stuff in there including flax seeds and frozen bananas.
Can you drink it? Do you add water? I like the idea as it provides necessary fibre and extra bioflavonoinds.
